My complete name is Steve Alexander Parra Avila. I am Ecuadorian but currently live in Toronto, Canada. I was born in a relatively small city, Cuenca, but I have lived my whole life in Azogues, another city 30 minutes away from the one where I was born. My family has been my strength in every single thing that I have done and that is the main reason for me to be here, studying my undergraduate program in one of the World’s top 20 universities.
Education for me, became more important in the university level, after succeeding at primary school and high school. However, the great opportunity of studying abroad made me rethink my life path and my options as a student.
My interest in Economics and Latin American Studies rise from the permanent curiosity that I had since I was a child. My grandmother, an extraordinary woman and successful entrepreneur, ran a small business during my childhood. This fact got my attention due to my daily interaction with her clients and friends. Even though I was a small kid without any serious knowledge of business, economics, or finance, my curiosity was enough for me to start ‘working’ with her and sharing beautiful experiences that with the pass of time would become the foundation for my career.
Living in a ‘developing’ country contributed in so many ways to my current interests. The culture of people, politics (despite the humble view that I had at that moment), international relations of our country, and the personal experience with poverty and difficult conditions of my population became the main reason to define my interest and to contribute with my profession to my country and its real growth.
I have not talked much about the creation of this blog, however, I have to tell you that it has always been part of my wishes: to share my thoughts and interests with anybody willing to contribute in the same way I think I can to the sharing of ideas that might perhaps help the formation of a better community wherever we are.
I will try to update this introduction of myself taking into account every single detail that I think would be important to describe the objective of this blog.
Steve.
